Creating More Focusing Environment For Kids With Attention Disorders

Blog

Raising a child that suffers from any type of attention disorder does come with some extra challenges. Fortunately, there are some things that can be done around the home to assist you with coping and treating the disorder, which can help to keep your kid on task during the day. Here, you will find a few tips that can help you and your child's home life become a little easier to manage.

Set up an Aquarium

One of the greatest tools to capture the attention of just about any kid – attention disorder or not – is a saltwater aquarium. Saltwater fish come in so many sizes, shapes, and colors that can capture the attention of the child as he passes by or as he sits and tries to focus on something.

When hyperactivity takes over, or when you're struggling to gain your child's attention and keep it, spending a little time together in front of the aquarium discussing what you see inside can help draw his attention back to you and enable you to direct him back to the task at hand. It can also be a great experience to visit a pet store together to choose from the saltwater fish for sale.

Limit the Noises

A lot of kids that suffer from attention disorders are distracted by sounds – it doesn't have to be music or television in the background disrupting their attention – it could be a dripping faucet, the humming of a refrigerator – anything that you might consider to be white noise can actually be deafening to your kid. They may not be able to focus on anything around them until the noise that they are hearing is either stopped or identified.

Note: If you're having a hard time maintaining a focal connection in a certain area of the home, try using noise-cancelling headphones in that area a few time. If they maintain their concentration, it could be the sounds in the room preventing them from completing their task successfully.

Eliminate Fluorescent Lighting

Do you have any fluorescent bulbs in your home? If so, it's time to remove them and replace them with a soft or clear white bulb. Fluorescent bulbs emit a high level of blue-light which can be damaging to the eyes and disrupting for those with attention disorders. Softer, more balanced lighting will eliminate one more distraction that could get in the way of progress.

These three change may seem simple to some, but they can improve the situation in your home a great deal – maybe even immediately after the changes are made.

Giving Pets The Care They Deserve

Hello everyone. My name is Vern Mitchell. Welcome to my website about pet care. When I was a young kid, I helped the neighborhood families take care of their pets during the vacation season. As my neighbors went on their trips, I would go by their houses to feed and play with their pets. Throughout this journey, I learned about the care techniques required for almost every step of pet. On this website, I would like to help others understand how to care for pets of all kinds. Thank you for coming by my website about pet care. Come back soon!
